A HELLP Story
by Jennifer
sub - 11/23/98

I am still recovering from the hellp syndrome and spent the first two months in a wheel chair too week to walk.

Jennifer's Story

My name is Jennifer Springstead and I was diagnosed with hellp syndrome at 37 weeks.  My son was very sick when he was born (Feb. 10 1998).  He was born with a cancer in his liver called neauro blastoma.  He spent his first month and a day in intensive care.  I am happy to say that he and I are both doing well.

I gave birth to my son vaginally.  I am very lucky that we are both
alive.  I wasn't putting protein out in my urine until I went into
labor.  I first started to swell at about seven months.  I also had flu
like symptoms during my third tri mester ( vomiting and diarrhea).  I
had some vaginal bleeding during my first tri mester and thought I was going to miscarry.

Gregory is my second child fifth pregnancy.  I had three miscarriages and a daughter born Feb. 10 1996.  My daughter was a healthy 11 pound baby and my pregnancy was perfect.  I am still recovering from the hellp syndrome and spent the first two months in a
wheel chair too week to walk.

I am interested in sharing my story with others and hearing others'
stories.  Maybe someday hellp syndrome can be prevented.  I don't know where to begin.
