I also told her about the
extreme pain I was having and that I couldn't sleep and was up crying. She said that it might be
my gallbladder. Basically she blew me off.
My name is Cheri and my baby's name is Andrew.
He weighed 1 pound 6 oz. and was born on 5/24/01 and died on 5/31/01.
This was my first pregnancy and it was a rough
one. I had morning sickness for the first four months and unexplained
bleeding during my fourth month. The fifth month was a little better
but I still felt sick on and off.
The six month is when I started to swell and
wasn't feeling good. I went to my sixth month check
up and my blood pressure was okay although it did go up slightly and my
swelling wasn't that bad yet. I did have a sudden increase in weight
(9 pounds) that month but my doctor wasn't concerned because I didn't have
the other symptoms of preeclampsia.
The seven month is when things got really bad.
The swelling got so bad that it looked like I
had elephantiasis in my legs and feet. I also had swelling in my
face and eyes and hands. The swelling was so bad that it literally
hurt to walk.
I had severe high back pain and severe stomach
pain. It felt like my stomach was going to burst open. I called
my doctor three different times about the swelling and pain and I told
her the swelling does not go away in the morning and it doesn't help to
lay on my left side. I also told her about the extreme pain I was
having and that I couldn't sleep and was up crying. She said that it might be my gallbladder.
Basically she blew me off.
I tried taking Tums and Mylanta and nothing
worked. The pain was getting really bad so I went home from work
early. I could do nothing to relieve the pain. That night I
had dry heaves.
A couple of days leading up to this I also
could not eat very much. There was no room in my stomach. The
next day I asked my mom to come over. She brought her blood pressure
kit and my blood pressure was 186/104. I called my doctor and she
told me to go to the hospital. Boy was I in for a shock.
They took some tests and said they had to deliver
the baby that night by emergency C-Section. I was only 28 weeks.
I was terrified. Everything happened so fast. I had so much swelling
that the doctors were shocked by all oozing of edema from my organs.
They put me in ICU for 2 days. I had
severe preeclampsia with HELLP syndrome. I had developed respiratory
failure and noncardiogenic pulmonary adema.
I was discharged after five days and I am physically
doing fine now. My baby died because he had severe bleeding in the
